The 2011 Architect of the Year Awards has now taken place

Small practices took on architectural giants in the running at this year’s awards, which celebrated bodies of work across 16 categories. This years event took place on the 15 November at the Brewery , set in the vibrancy of the city.
This year – the eighth in which they have been running – the awards drew a record 168 entries

The judging was conducted in October by a jury of architects, clients and built environment experts. They included Waheed Nazir, director of regeneration at Birmingham Council; Liz Peace, Chief Executive of the British Property Federation and Bridget Sawyers, Chief Executive of the Architecture Centre Network.
The Young Architect of the Year Award
The Young Architect of the Year award was assessed separately by a jury comprising architects Peter St John and John McAslan, the Victoria and Albert Museum’s Moira Gemmill and Julian Barwick of Development Securities.

We were also delighted to have the Schueco Gold Award being presented at this year’s ceremony. This award was presented to the practice who BD’s editor deems to have made the most significant contribution to British architecture over the past year.
